Synopsis
They told themselves the fire had finished him. They were wrong.
Two years after Dr. Mann’s supposed death, the nightmare returns — a man taken on a moonlit common, a warning from an old friend, and a trail that leads Dr. Marsh beneath a house where a single hand has been writing scientific notebooks since 1887. Mann is not what they believed. He may not even be the worst of what they face.
As a seven-fold assault closes on London — its water, its wires, its government, its faith in itself — Marsh discovers the enemy’s true target is not the city but a person: Fleur, the daughter Mann stole and shaped into a weapon. To save her, and London, Marsh must learn whether anyone raised by a monster can choose to become something else.
Some prisons are built of concrete. The most dangerous are built of doubt.
