Synopsis
A thousand years ago, a king watched a girl with a gold thread in her hair be sold into the dark, and did nothing. He has carried her ever since.
Now Harald Bluetooth turns his hidden power against the modern machinery of the vanished — the trade that still turns human beings into cargo. His weapons are three: an immortal who makes predators disappear, a deathless watcher sworn to keep him honest, and a mortal woman who keeps a roll of every stolen name, so the world can never round the cost down to zero.
Their target is untouchable — a man who has hidden the trade inside the world’s most trusted charity. To reach him, the King is offered the one tool that would work: a machine of total sight, a cage that sees everything. It would end the trade in a single season.
It would also end something else.
A novel about the people the world subtracts — and the terrible price of the shelter that would save them.
The Thin Gold Thread is a sweeping moral thriller about trafficking, power, witness, and the dangerous tenderness that can become either mercy or a cage.
